First Cheap Edition. 6" By 8 3/4" 282 Pages. 28 black and white photographs and drawings. Black boards, gilt spine titles, top edge blue. Unclipped dust-jacket has chips and closed tears. Boards have light scratches; light toning to pages and occasional fox mark; no tears, folds or other marks. "... the true story of the Pilgrimage of two lovers: Grey Owl (Wa-Sha-Quon-Asin) son of a Scot and an Apache, trapper, guide, sniper in the Canadian Army, now officially appointed Protector of Wild Life and world famous; and of Anahareo, daughter of a line of Iroquois chiefs".
Grey Owl was the name British-born Archibald Belaney (September 18, 1888 – April 13, 1938) chose for himself when he took on a fraudulent First Nations identity as an adult. While he achieved fame as a conservationist during his life, after his death the revelation of his non-Native origins and other autobiographical fabrications negatively affected his reputation.
