Rebound in attractive modern 1/4 calf to complementary paisley boards, five raised bands with glit decorations and a leather spine title. 12mo. 7.25 inches tall; 284 pages, Includes final ad leaf at rear. Previous owner's name on the title page in light pencil. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, text evenly age-toned [no foxing]. The title page and next three pages browned on the lower blank space. Printed by William Young, Bookseller, no. 52, Second-Street, corner of Chestnut-Street.. Serle, Ambrose was a devotional writer, colonial official, and naval officer. An evangelical Anglican, he became undersecretary to William Legge, earl of Dartmouth, in 1772, went to America in 1774, and was in New York from 1776 to 1778. There he acted as William Lord Howe's secretary, for a time controlled the local press, and published a religious argument against the Revolution,
This book was first Printed in England in 1787 and is a Calvinistic ideal of basic Christian living.
