BOUND WITH [Hertzen] Du Developpement des Idées Revolutionaires en Russie Par A. Iscander [pseud.]. Paris, A. Franck, 1851. xv, 176 p. (1-12 in eights). Printed in Nice. Dedicated "A Notre Ami Michel Bakounine." The "Annexe Sur la Commune Rurale en Russie" (pp. 172-176) contains contemporary corrections and comments. NUC 243: 322 (NH 0325782)-- TxU, MH-BA, MdBP, NN. These two pamphlets, published during his brief period in Nice by the exiled Russian socialist, proposing that Russia could become the first socialist country because of the communal traditions of its peasantry, were laughed at by Marx and Engels, then considered prophecy by the Soviets. Considering the methods used by Stalin to socialize Russian farms, Marx and Engels were probably right. These are important documents of the Russian Revolutionary movement. Stock#NS0016.
