New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1935. Hardcover. VERY GOOD. FIRST EDITION with Scribner's "A" to copyright page. Previous owner's name to front free endpaper. Offset pp 38-39. Several light stains to back board. A few light marks to front board. Spine lean. Mild crease to bottom spine cap. Gilt lettering to spine and front of wine-colored cloth-covered boards. No markings to text. 176 pp. Solid. This was adapted into the 1936 film with Humphrey Bogart, Leslie Howard and Betty Davis. A 1934 production, this drama is a melodramatic Depression-era tale of frustrated lives and spiritural emptiness. It takes place in a gas station and lunchroom along an Arizona highway.
