Sobre este item

Baldwinsville, NY: Indian Spring Farms, Inc., 1926. 12mo. 111, [1] pp. With numerous photo plates. Green-tinted textured softcovers, cover art lozenge illust. of Peony (minor dustsoiling, edgewear), still VG copy, from the library of Millard Armstrong (1874-1958), longtime Portland, Oregon millwright, carpenter, home builder, and later high school teacher, and Albany, OR dairy farmer. First edition of this scarce first catalogue issued by these two nurserymen on the Seneca River in Baldwinsville, NY. Flower growers were drawn by the expertise of Cornell University’s agricultural stations, and the cut flower market became a boon to Baldwinsville after 1902. Goodrich established a 200 acre farm by 1925 with more than 700 varieties of peonies, and recruited Harry Little from Goodland, Indiana to supply horticultural expertise. For a few years they were very successful until death and the Great Depression bankrupted the company. Worldcat locates 1 copy (Nat. Agr. Lib.); See: They Cultivated Beauty . . . Baldwinsville’s Flower Farms, Shacksboro Schoolhouse Museum (2016).
