Sobre este item

Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, first edition thus, 1906 photo-facsimile of the 1477 edition. Limited edition of 250 copies. Cloth, gilt cover-title, small folio, 27 cm,. 1 leaf of letterpress and 33 leaves of photo-facsimile. From the introduction - "Among the books collected by John Moore, Bishop of Ely, and presented to the University of Cambridge in 1715 by King George the First, probably the most famous is a certain volume of small pieces, chiefly by Chaucer and Lydgate, printed separately by Caxton at the very outset of his career at Westminster. The tract here reprinted is the second of eight contained in the volume. Like the Anelida and Arcite and Lydgate's Temple of Glass already issued in this series, it is believed to be unique. The translator, Benet Burgh, is described by Caxton in 1483 as * late Archdeacon of Colchestre and high canon of St Stephens at Westmestre'; and the translation, Caxton tells us, was made ‘for the erudition of my lord Bousher, son and heir at that time to my lord the erle of Essex.' Large bookplate of Brian S. Donaghey on front pastedown endpaper and pencil note on front free endpaper. A trifle rubbed, otherwise Very Good.
