Sobre este item
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1894. FIRST EDITION. With numerous text illustrations, many full-page. Publisher's red patterned cloth, title in gilt, silver British Royal coat of arms on front board; small water stain to bottom right corner of text. First edition. The author provides a typically American viewpoint of English life with the apparent intention of educating Americans about England and how the English live day-to-day. He details, for example, a general political election, the life of an undergrad at Oxford, horse racing (a typical English event), tourist attractions (such as the changing of the guard), and life in the east and west ends. Whether it is a promotional treatise for travel or a warning against it is, likely, up to the individual reader. Davis (1864-1916) was an American journalist.
