Sobre este item

Augsburg: Nakladom T.-I, 1946. Publisher's wrappers. 21 cm. 63 pages: portrait. Text in Ukrainian. A good copy with the lower corner of the first nine pages slightly chipped.

A scarce edition of Franko's literary works, printed in a camp for Ukrainian displaced persons.

At the conclusion of World War II, the aftermath left millions displaced, with over six million refugees in Allied-occupied Germany alone. These individuals comprised survivors of concentration camps, political detainees, former forced laborers, and prisoners of war. While many were repatriated initially, about one million individuals in Germany were either unable or unwilling to return to their home countries. Consequently, these displaced persons found themselves housed in camps, typically organized by nationality. Within these communities, efforts were made to establish essential amenities such as schools, places of worship, cultural institutions, healthcare facilities, and even their own media outlets in the form of newspapers and books.
