Sobre este item

New York: C.M. Saxton, Agricultural Book Publisher, 1862. [Agriculture] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.[2]; 376; 8; [2]. With numerous educational engravings to text. Advertisements to rear. Yellow endpapers. Publisher's dark green cloth to boards with blind embossing to upper and lower. Gilt titles and tooling to spine. Leaves are toned throughout with light foxing and various marks, including a dark stain to page 262. Gutter is visible in a few areas. Owner inscription in pencil to a preliminary. Toning to edges and endpapers, front flyleaf cancelled. Cloth binding is rubbed, lightly marked, and frayed to extremities. Overall, very good. John Phin, enticed by a wide variety of subjects, sought to reconcile Christianity with nineteenth-century science with works such as his 'Natural History of Hell' and 'The Chemical History of the Six Days of Creation.' However, he was also skilled in the art of wine-making, this being his comprehensive guide to the novice.
