New York: Farrar, Straus & Cudahy, 1961. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. First edition. A little foxing on the endpapers, slight soiling on the boards, else near fine in modestly rubbed and toned very good or better dust jacket. Williams' first book, Inscribed to Charles F. Harris: "for Chuck, Sam & the kids with best wishes for all the good things. John A. Williams." The recipient was Charles F. Harris, a pioneering African-American in the White publishing world. Williams and Harris co-edited Black anthologies *Amistad* and *Amistad 2* for Random House in the early 1970s where Harris was a senior editor. Williams won an American Book Award for his 1998 collection *Safari West*, and received a Lifetime Achievement award from the American Book Awards in 2011. James Baldwin blurb on cover of dust jacket. A nice association.
