Top edge gilt; author's ex libris on front pastedown; gift inscription from author's daughter (Elizabeth Dodge) on ffep; mild toning to preliminaries; several printer's cutting errors (some leaves not separated fully, others rough cut). Dr. Henry Nehemiah Dodge was a venerable New Jersey dentist and religious scholar, as well as a poet; he published four books of verse before his death in 1937. In his Mystery of the West, Dodge lauds the arrival and patriotic efforts of America's immigrant communities, though his work was occasionally criticized as platitudinous. With interesting "in memoriam" bookplate, a touching tribute to Dr. Dodge depicting his four poetry books and the final words from his poem Christus Victor: "Fear not, Almighty Love is at the Helm
