Sobre este item
New York: Derby & Jackson, 1856. Fremont (1813-1890) was a war hero and noted explorer; he was also the first presidential candidate of the newly-founded Republican Party. The author, John Bigelow (1817-1911), was an early and ardent supporter of his candidacy. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition. Brown cloth binding, nicely blindstamped with ruling, an oval, and square pebbling; titled in gilt on the spine. Clean text; x, continuing from 11 to 480 pages. Frontis portrait of Fremont, with some transfer from the tissue guard; other engravings within. Condition: some pencil erasures and scribbles to the front endpapers; bumped corners and a bit of rubbing. Some spotting to the endpapers, and very occasionally throughout. The text remains clear and quite readable, and the spine gilt is nicely bright. A grand artefact of American political history that presents very well.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
