But only in the lengthy essay entitled "Sociology of Law," does Weber focus primarily on the legal order itself. Despite its reputation as a classic and the enormous influence it has had, Weber's "Sociology of Law" has long been criticised for the density of its prose, the forbiddingly wide range of its coverage, and its lack of polish and organisational unity. This book not only demonstrates that it has more unity and coherence than its critics claim, but relates it clearly to other branches of Weber's general theory of society, -- notably those dealing with authority, religion, and economic action.
