Sobre este item

Grosset & Dunlap, New York, unknown. Early Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Good. JOHNSTON McCULLEY. The Mark of Zorro, New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1924. Octavo, dated 1924 but this resembles 1930s reprints and is certainly not a first edition, pp. viii, 300, red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine and front, top edge tinted red. First book appearance of a swashbuckling hero of old California, with the scarce dust jacket. Condition of this book: Good in good jacket. Jacket is chipped at edges and spine ends, crease in front panel. Boards show a few darkened areas and the cloth in the front joint is getting threadbare, overall sound. Shipments outside the U.S. may be subject to local taxes. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Fiction; United States; 1920s; Film, Radio & Television. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 55089. .

Sinopse

The rousing adventure that gave birth to one of popular culture's most enduring iconsOriginally titled The Curse of Capistrano in its 1919 debut, this exciting tale achieved immortal fame thanks to Douglas Fairbanks's 1920 blockbuster film, The Mark of Zorro-a cinematic triumph that inspired Johnston McCulley to retitle his novel and dedicate it to Fairbanks. Set in Mexican California during the 1820s, the story follows the career of Don Diego Vega, by all appearances an effete and foppish aristocrat. But Vega's timorous reputation is nothing more than a mask to conceal his alter ego: a California Robin Hood known as Zorro, whose swift blade strikes down those who exploit the poor and oppressed. The inspiration for dozens of film and television adaptations, The Mark of Zorro remains a paradigm of swashbuckling adventure.First time in Penguin ClassicsIncludes an introduction and filmography
