Marianne's father was Henry Thornton MP, friend of William Wilberforce (about whom there is much in this book) and member of the Clapham Sect. A fascinating and affectionate domestic portrait. Indexed. Blue cloth with gilt titles to spine is very clean and neat. Endpapers are slightly tanned. Dust wrapper is dust and finger marked with a significant chip to the head of the spine and small chips to tail of the spine. Very good copy in fair dust wrapper . Hardback. First Edition. 1956.
