Moderate rubbing and wear to the binding. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. The binding is slightly cocked but is sturdy. The endpapers are foxed, as well as some places in the text, especially around the illustrated plates. Signed on the title page by Dred Peacock (one of the best names ever). Illustrated with about nine full-page plates. Publisher's descriptive label pasted to the rear pastedown. The book is a novel set in late 18th century France. Dred Peacock (1864-1934) was a professor of Latin at Greensboro College. He went on to become President of the college. After he retired from this he practiced law, and at his death was the member of the board of trustees for Duke University and Greensboro College. He was an avid book collector, and his collecting focused on American and French history, especially on the revolutionary period of the late 18th century.

Pages Past is a small used & rare bookshop located a few blocks from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
