London: Houlston and Wright. Near Fine. 1858. First Edition. Leather Bound. Gutter starting on title page - nevertheless, the binding is tight and sound. Gift inscription on second front free endpaper, dated 1862.; Book is in excellent condition. Full leather boards with gilt borders on front and rear boards, five raised bands and gilt lettering - see image. Dealer's tag on lower edge of inner front board: "Parker of Oxford." Marbled endpapers and text block. The author was an Irish songwriter, composer and novelist, and a portrait painter, chiefly in miniatures. He was the grandfather of Victor Herbert. ; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; 360 pages .
