Sobre este item
New York: The Century Magazine, 1923. First Editions. Three quarto volumes (24cm); original decorative wrappers; xlviii,[801]-960,[70]pp; xliii,160,[68]; xlviii,[161]-320,[66]pp; illus. Some light external wear and signs of use, with a few tiny tears to extremities, else clean internally; a uniformly Near Fine set. Complete serialization of Cather's sixth novel, centered around "a lady lost between the nineteenth and twentieth century and its values and the hurly-burly and changing modes of the twentieth century. In an age when a woman's life consisted of dependence on a man, she would have been a lady; in the twentieth century, she was scarcely that" (Coan, p.115). The Century serial precedes Knopf's trade edition by several months, and features woodcuts by J.J. Lankes and Bernhardt Kleboe that never made it into the book, though Kleboe's May, 1923 illustration would ultimately be used for the front panel of the dustjacket. An uncommonly well-preserved set. CRANE, p.100. [59401].
