New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1974. First American edition. Octavo, ochre cloth, pp. xv [2], 709 xxii; no illustrations. Three indicies are provided to navigate this massive text: film titles; names; and general subjects. Signed by Wright on the title page and additionally inscribed and signed by him on the front free endpaper to a Czech documentary filmmaker and academic. Basil Wright (1907-1987), was an important documentary filmmaker, film historian, film critic and teacher. The book opens with an eclectic and diverse selection of printed quotations from A.N. Whitehead; Arthur Rimbaud and John Grierson. Near Fine in dust jacket, with minor creasing at the head of the spine. .
