One of 600 unnumbered advance copies of the 40th Anniversary Edition of Lolly Willowes & Mr. Fortune’s Maggot, specially designed as a Christmas presentation for friends of the author and the publishers with the publisher’s printed seasonal greeting laid in. The printed dedication to this special one-volume edition reads: “This edition is dedicated by the publishers to the memories of Heywood Brown, Henry Seidel Canby, Dorothy Canfield Fisher, Christopher Morley, [and] William Allen White, the original judges of the Book-of-the-Month Club who chose Lolly Willowes as the Club’s first selection, and to the memory of Carl Van Doren who chose Mr. Fortune’s Maggot as one of the early selections of the Literary Guild.” Illustrated with wood engravings by Reynolds Stone.
