Sobre este item
New York: Published By Mason Brothers, 1855. The first of several popular biographies written by James Parton (1822-1891). He went on to cover Jefferson, Franklin, and Voltaire among others. His subject here, Horace Greeley (1811-1872) had reformist inclinations, and had become a founder of the Republican Party in 1854. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Brown cloth binding, ruled on the covers, with titling and decorations in gilt on the spine and front cover. Clean text; xviii, 442 pages. There are two frontis engravings, another within, and a facsimile of a handwritten Greeley editorial. Contemporary previous-owner stamp and signature on the front endpapers. Occasional spotting throughout, but generally clear and unfoxed. The corners are bumped, but the most noticeable defect is an ink stain on the front cover; otherwise a solid copy.. First Edition. Half-Leather. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
