A first edition of this remarkable collection of letters by prominent people in the seventeenth and eighteenth century compiled by John Aubrey. The whole work fist published from the originals in the Bodleian Library and Ashmolean Museum. The first edition thus. Complete with two volumes in three. A fascinating work compiled by John Aubrey. Comprising a selection of letters written by eminent people in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Most of them are taken from the Collections of Hearne, Smith, and Ballard, in the Bodleian Library. Exhibiting biographical sketches of people contemporary with the writers, as well as notices of passing events, and of the general state of literature. Including Hearne's Journey to Reading, printed from his Manuscript Diaries, and Lives of Eminent Men by Aubrey. With letters by Sir Kenlem Digby, Dr Charleton, Sir W Dugdale, Dr Hickes, and many more. In the original publisher's binding with paper covered boards. Externally very smart with only slight shelf wear and edge wear , with minor bumping to the extremities. Inscribed by a previous owner to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean, with occasional spotting particularly to the endpapers. Very Good
