A collection of short stories about the "careless, happy, colored people of the South..." Bradford's novels depicting African American life in the south was well-recieved in the 1930s and continued in popularity until his death in 1948. Since then his work as a white author depiciing black southern life has been re-evaluated for it's patronizing and bellitling portrayals of black characters.
