Sobre este item
Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1952. Hardcover. Edited by T.H. Vail Motter. 8vo. Brick cloth with gilt spine lettering, dust jacket. viii, 70pp. Near fine/very good. Spine of otherwise-superb jacket rather tanned. Handsome first edition of the first appearance of Wilson's 1890 University of Tennessee commencement address, with Motter's useful preface and introduction. When Illinois governor and long-time Wilson admirer Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65) was the Democratic presidential candidate for the first time in 1952, he was presented this copy from someone whose signature alas is indecipherable -- front flyleaf is boldly inscribed in black ink "To Adlai Stevenson: / With the warmest regards / [ ? ] / Dec 10 / 52." From the library of the governor's namesake son, Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021) Illinois senator (1970-81).
