The photograph measures approximately 9 1/2 x 13”; on the photographer’s mount, 13 x 17”, printing “William Gillette/ Morrison/ Haymarket Theatre Building/ 161 West Madison Street/ Chicago.” Minor foxing, scratching and staining to the mount and photograph; matted, framed and glazed; overall approximately 20 x 26”. A relatively early image of the actor and playwright, taken and issued well before his great success and popularity as “Sherlock Holmes.”
