Alphonse Lemerre, Paris (with rare bookplate), 1911. 1st Edition and 1st printing thus. HARDCOVER. From the collection of wealthy society hostess Mary Hunter (1856-1933) who was sculpted in marble by Auguste Rodin and painted by John Singer Sargent. With a fine example of her ornately engraved bookplate showing a vampire bat holding onto an inverted heart on the front paste-down end-paper. In later life Mary Hunter was a wealthy and well connected society hostess Octavo size (8vo) bound in brown cloth with gilt embossed title to leather panel on spine and 'Hill Hall Theydon Mount' lettered in gilt on the front cover (binding by Hatchards). 261pp, text in French __CONDITION : Mild tanning to preliminary leaves and page-block edges else FINE, a well preserved very clean and tight copy. ... __We always ship in PROTECTIVE CARD PARCELS
