Sobre este item

London: Oxford University Press, 1949 . Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good. viii, 98, [2pp.]. None. An early impression of this romantic comedy set in the Middle Ages, a play by Christopher Fry. Second impression of the work. Published the same year as the first edition. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Written by English poet and playwright, Christopher Fry, whose work such as this play made him a major force in theatre in the 1940s and 1950s. 'The Lady's Not For Burning' is a romantic comedy play set in the Middle Ages. It reflects the world's "exhaustion and despair" after the Second World War, with a tired soldier who wants to die and a supposed witch, who wants to live. The play was originally performed at an Arts Theatre private club for two weeks in London in 1949, starring Alec Clunes. It was then taken on a provincial tour and a successful run at the Globe theatre.Ink inscription of previous owner, D. B. Anderson. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with a touch of fading to the extremities and the occasional small mark to the cloth. Light offsetting to endpapers. Ink inscription to front endpaper.Dust wrapper is generally smart, with light chipping to the extremities, more to the head of the spine. Small tear to the rear joint of the wrap. Age toning and slight sunning to the wrap, with darkening to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
