He was a close friend Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie and bound several books for her as gifts. Binder's stamp to the front pastedown reads 'Xmas S B 1967'. Binder's ink stamp to the verso of front endpaper, 'Sangorski and Sutcliffe'. Bookplate of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie to the front endpaper. From the library of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (Audrey Evelyn James Coats, and Audrey Evelyn James Field) at Julian"s Park. Pleydell-Bouverie was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire. It was rumoured that she was the illegitimate granddaughter of Edward VII. She bought Julians Park in 1940 following her third marriage to the Hon Peter Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was a patron of the arts and it is believed that she bound several books herself, as many books from her library were stamped with her name and she owned a group of bookbinding tools. Illustrated throughout with photographs and paintings of George VI's life and reign. Collated, complete.A fine example of this biography regarding one of the United Kingdom's two 20th century monarchs. In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally, fine. Minor fading to the spine as is common with this colour. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Fine

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
