Vancouver: Whitecap Books. Very Good. 1995. Softcover. 1551102951 . "...during the nineteenth century, hundreds of Hawaiians served mainly in the Hudson's Bay Company at fur trading posts from Oregon to Alaska. By the 1880s Kanakas (the Hawaiian word for "human beings") were living in the Vancouver area, Victoria, the Gulf Islands, the San Juan Islands and in scattered communities along the coast of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California ... they were gutsy survivors who worked hard and adapted remarkably well to their chosen home. Their descendants still live in British Columbia and the American West. Contains an index, source notes, and a bibliography in the rear. Original blue paperback covers with white spine and cover lettering and decoration. This is a clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The covers are in nice condtion with just a very light corner crease, but no tears or chips. ; B&W Photos & Illustrations; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 152 pages .
