[Beauty Contents and Marriage in Byzantium]

Soft cover, 21 cm, 252 pp. Describes the live of a woman in Byzantium from the θαλάμευσις period, i.e. the strict supervision of a girl in the parental home and environment, the betrothal, and the settlement of the dowry until the arranged marriage, either a usual wedding or the royal weddings. Then describes the very original way of selection of the royal bride, through a beauty contest. In the byzantine sources are described and analyzed the cases of emperors that married the winner of a beauty contest, their wedding and all the events that have affected the later life.
