An important & uncommon title. The first translation (by A. Bernier) from the original, unpublished manuscript, with the Latin & French texts on facing pages. The proceedings of the important 1484 Estates General convoked at Tours by Charles VIII - which sought to retain its fiscal control of the government & administration through its unsuccessful attempt to re-assert its historical right to vote taxes (lost when Charles VII established the permanent royal "taille") - are known only through Jehan Masselin's detailed journal. Masselin, who died in 1500, was a doctor of civil & canon law, and a representative of the archbishop of Rouen at the 1484 Estates General. (Intro). Brissaud p.361ff. The typographic design of the text is that of Firmin Didot, member of the venerable Didot family of typefounders & printers, who, in 1812, was asked to redesign the type of the Imprimerie Imperiale.
