London: The Folio Society, 1949. First Edition. Red Cloth. Very Good Plus/Good Plus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Large. Alken, Henry. 228pp. 1949. First 'The Folio Society' edition. A lovely, clean, tight very good plus copy in a very good minus wrapper. Scarce in wrapper. A well preserved copy. Fifteen attractive colour plates. No inscriptions. Original publisher's red buckram cloth with a gilt embossed brown title block to the spine. Tiny booksellers sticker to the corner of the front paste-down. Upper edge dyed brown. A very light very small stain/fox mark to the fore-edge. The wrapper has not been price-clipped. There is a chip to the head of the front panel. A much smaller chip to the tail of the front panel, similarly to the rear panel and several small chips to the head of the rear panel and to several corners. A 3cm tear to the wrapper at the head of the rear panel - now expertly repaired. Some toning to the rear panel of the wrapper and some light rubbing to the wrapper spine edges. A very good plus copy in a good plus wrapper.
