Sobre este item

New York: Ace Books, Inc, [1959]. First Paperback Edition (& 1st printing). Small octavo, original pictorial wrappers (paperback format). 191 pp., ads. Issued as Ace Star K-109. Light rubbing & mild wear at edges of covers, one light cvertical crease along front spine hinge. light browning to text block. A very good to near fine copy, the hinges uncracked, the spine uncreased. Well above average for this poorly made book.

First paperback edition, originally issued in hardcover by Lippincott in 1939. A young soldier awakens in a hospital bed after being caught in the blast of an exploding artillery shell. He gradually realizes that he has lost his arms, legs, and all of his face (including his eyes, ears, nose, teeth, and tongue), but that his mind functions perfectly, leaving him a prisoner in his own body. Considered to be one of the most powerful anti-war novels ever published. Winner of the National Book Award for most Original Book of 1939. Terrifying.
