Sobre este item
London: William Heinemann, 1909. Cloth. Good. 11" by 8.5". Joseph Pennell. A beautifully illustrated book of travel writing from Henry James. Early edition. Illustrated with a colour tipped-in frontispiece and sixty-three plates, thirty-one of which are in colour tipped-in. Collated complete. A collection of essays written over forty years during James' time in Italy, with chapters on Venice, Rome, Siena, Florence, Tuscany, and more. With sketches of the places visited, the people he met, and the experiences he had. Written by Henry James, an American-British author, regarded as a key figure in the transition between literary realism and literary modernism. He is considered by many to be among the greatest novelists of the English language. Illustrated by Joseph Pennell, an American etcher, lithographer, illustrator, and draughtsman. Includes the rear board of the extremely scarce original dust wrapper. Previously held in the library of Constantine Curran, an Irish lawyer and writer. In the original full green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine, and a stain to the spine. The odd mark to the boards, with a tide mark to the rear board. Light fraying to the tail of the spine. With the rear panel of the original dust wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light spotting and age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Good
