Ismail Hashim, who died in 2013, was one of the first Malaysian photographers to be recognised as an artist through his hand-tinted prints recording the everyday life that he came across. After his death his family arranged for his effects to be placed in a permanent archive for the benefit of future art photographers and researchers. This book is edited by those responsible for the project and includes essays by photographers and academics on his art, a selection of interviews with Hashim himself and an account of establishing the archive of his work. 176 pages with many photographs of his work. The Penang Bookshelf was set up in mid 2010 principally to introduce Malaysian residents to the variety of books there is available about the country both past and present. We only stock fiction and non-fiction related to Malaysia and the rest of Asia. Much of our current stock of over a thousand different titles is not available in Malaysia. Conversely much of our stock published in Malaysia is difficult to find outside the country. So if there\'s something Malaysia related that you\'re looking for, do please contact us and we\'ll do our best to help.
