Frontis tissue protected (tissue loose from binding)--Portrait of Pierre Loti. Black cloth binding with blind stamped double border on front, two gilt outlined panels on spine with gilt lettering within-quite bright and clear. Fleur de lys in black to spine. Quite clean with rubbed edges and light wear to spine head and heel. Solid and tight sewn binding. Lime-green decorated title page. Short bio of author. Former owner name on verso of half-title page. Pages clean and unmarked, no tears, very slight toning. Pierre Loti (Louis Marie Julien Viaud) was born in 1850 and died in 1923. He was a French naval officer and author, one of the most original French writers of the second half of the 19th century, writing of humble and simple folks, simple working class people, of incidents involved in everyday life. Many of his stories deal with love and separation. "An Iceland Fisherman" ("Pecheur d'Islande") published in 1886, is a story of the life of Breton fishermen who sail every summer to the Iceland cod fishing grounds, a romantic but sad story. 280 pages. 8.25 x 5.75 inches. 1902, P.F.Collier & Son, New York, New York, USA
