Sobre este item

London: and Letterman, Et Al. Good with no dust jacket. 1809. Tenth Edition. Leather. Iv, 433 pp + 358, [62] pp. 62 pages unnumbered index. In full contemporary calf, spines appear to be renewed by a long time ago. Black spine labels with gilt. Normal shelf wear to the covers, some distinctive darkeneing and wrinkling to the spine giving an ombre effect. Interior has a lovely gift inscription from a father to his daughter, Elizabeth (it has descended in the family). There is some foxing, mostly at beginning and end, otherwise clean and unmarked. Lovely copies. Dr. Goldsmith's History of Greece is a comprehensive work that delves into the rich history of Greece, written by the renowned author and historian, Oliver Goldsmith. It covers the period from the earliest times to the fall of the Roman Empire. It explores the legendary tales of the gods and heroes, the rise of the city-states, the Persian Wars, the Golden Age of Athens, the Peloponnesian War, and Alexander the Great's conquests. Goldsmith's writing style is engaging and accessible, making this book an excellent resource for both scholars and casual readers. "Oliver Goldsmith: A Poet, Naturalist, and Historian, who left scarcely any style of writing untouched, and touched nothing that he did not adorn. Of all the passions, whether smiles were to move or tears, a powerful yet gentle master. In genius, vivid, versatile, sublime. In style, clear, elevated, elegant." Epitaph written by Dr. Johnson, translated from the original Latin. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 791 pages .
