Condition: Very good, with previous owners name neatly written at top of front endpaper. Dustjacket condition: Very good, with light shelfwear, light sunning to spine. Not price-clipped. 209pp. 48 b/w woodcuts, 26 further b/w illustrations. In this book Eastlake set out to provide a detailed record of "one of the most remarkable revolutions in national art that his country has seen". He was determined "to chronicle facts rather than offer criticisms". In the appendix he supplied details of 343 neo-Gothic buildings ereted between 1820 and 1870. In the text he dealt a lenght with the influence of Horace Walpole, Pugin and Ruskin, and the architecture of Wyatt, Barry, Butterfield, Scott, Burges, Waterhouse and many more. This new edition reproduces the full text of Eastlake's work, together with an introduction by Dr.J.Mordaunt Crook, a comprehensive bibliography and an extra section of 26 illustrations..
