Stamford: Baldwin, Cradock and Joy et al, 1816. Book. Good. Hardcover. 8vo. Title continues "Including an Abstract of the Observations of Mr. Essex, Respecting the Ancient and Present State of the Abbey and the Origin and use of the triagular bridge.....to which is added an appendix concerning the rise and progress of the Pointed Architecture, from essays collected by Mr. Taylor" pp. xvi, 182 + publisher's adverts., engraved frontispiece and one further engraved plate, both with original tissue guards. Original printed paper backed boards, Plain Paper backed spine is a replacement with Crowland written by hand. The binding is good and strong with some general wear, paper browned, edges rubbed, corners worn and rounded. Contents good and tight, scattered foxing throughout. particularly to uncut fore-edges. The hinges have been carefully repaired, the repair neatly dated 1931. A good copy. This books comes with some loose ephemera - 2 postcards, one of the abbey and one of the triangular bridge, both in very good condition and unused, no date but circa 1925, there is also a b/w photograph of the bridge dated 12 Oct 1925. A pamphlet guide to the abbey - "Crowland Abbey Architectural Notes extracted from papers read by The Reverend Canon Moore, Somewhile vicar of Spalding" No date circa 1920? A newspapers clipping etc. and a few autograph letters..
