A deluxe Franklin Library first edition of Allen Drury's novel, in which the United States and the U.S.S.R. confront one another to the point of near-nuclear conflict. With illustrations by Mitchell Hooks. Issued as part of the publisher's First Edition Society series which preceded the Doubleday trade edition. Includes a prefatory note by the author. One in a limited edition of an unspecified number of copies. Publisher's "Notes from the Editors" leaflet is lain in. --- Bound in full brown bonded leather covers with four raised bands on spine. Text presented on quality papers. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges (AEG) all in bright gilt. Dark red silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- A very nice copy: bright, newish and probably unread, but with scuffing to back cover and slight scratches to textblock edge gilding.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (20), 533 pages .
