Sobre este item
George Herbert Clarke (1873-1953) was a Canadian poet and academic. Having taught at American universities, in 1925 he became head of the English department at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In addition, in 1944 he became editor-in-chief of the Queen's Quarterly. In 1930, he was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and awarded their Lorne Pierce medal in 1943. He published poems in various British, American, and Canadian publications including Athenaeum, Atlantic, Forum, English Review, and Saturday Night. He was also well-known as a critic and editor, one of his most notable publications as editor being A Treasury of War Poetry.
The Hasting Day is a collection of fifty-five poems that he collected as being most representative of his work. This volume may be described as being in Very Good condition. The dust jacket is in poor condition, with a large piece torn from the top of the back, as well as a small piece missing from the bottom of the back, and general tattering to the top edge. The dust jacket is also entirely split along the back edge of the spine, but is held together with a clear plastic protector. This first edition is also inscribed to Caroline Mitchell, "with kindest regards" and signed by the author.
