This work explores the history of English houses, starting from Norman keeps, through various eras and style including medieval, Jacobean and Elizabethan.John Alfred Gotch (1852-1942) was an English architectural historian, with an interest in particular in Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture. He was Vice-President of the Royal Institute of British Architects.Lavishly illustrated throughout with vignette photographs and diagrams. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with gilt embellishment to the spine and cover. Externally very smart, with a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Ownership bookplates to the front pastedown and endpaper. Internally, firmly bound, pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
