Ornithology Illustrated . 1st. Ed. Pub. ACC. 1993-94. Two volume set with colour and b/w. illus. throughout. 4to. Fine hardbacks in fine dws. with spines very gently sunned. Although not inscribed, from the library of ornithologist, artist, author and editor Robert Gillmor MBE. Loosely inserted is a sheet of lined paper with Roberts handwritten, very complimentary, draft review of this series of volumes. Volume I covers oils and watercolours up to 1699, and includes Durer, Holbein, Rubens and many more. The age of sense and sensitivity in bird art is the subject of Volume II, as well as the art world in general, although there were still works being produced in the style and composition of the old masters. Includes works from Casteels, Cradock, van Royen, Stranover and Bogdani.
