(1st edition) Large, heavy book, quality dark blue cloth with embossed border, bright gilt design of necklace at top front, ornate gilt design on spine, 370 lightly browned pages. Tiny nick at top front edge. In blue ink on first front end paper: "To Hazel and Durward who don't dare stop reading while I keep on writing. With love, Bertita. Feb. 2, 1937. This is one of the author's ten gift copies. (pre-publication)." DJ glossy beneath mylar, with ornate pattern of gold and dark blue, color portraits of royalty with ornate design on front, spine lightly faded, praise on white back from Marquis James, George Ade and others. Includes a typewritten agenda for War Bonds Rally in Wilmington, Delaware with black ink note that mentions she helped raise six million dollars in one day, and that a copy of her book "Golden Fleece" was auctioned off at $5,000. DJ has tiny nicks and tears to most edges. Fair DJ/Very Good book.
