Sobre este item
Washington, DC: Island Press, 2001. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Association copy, inscribed on the title page: "For Jane Cottrell, Best wishes, Char, 2-3-07, Portland." Uncommon signed. Jane Cottrell rose to become the Forest Service's Deputy Chief, an office which sits just below the agency's Chief and Associate Chief (i.e. third in command). Char Miller is an environmental historian, a professor at Pomona College, and the author of more than a dozen environmental book on subjects as diverse as Death Valley, Hetch Hetchy, water policy and controversy, and a lot more. He is a fellow of the Forest History Society. A nice association in light of the subject, and a book described as a "masterful biography," the first of Pinchot in four decades. Blurbs by Jack Ward Thomas (former Forest Service Chief) and Carolyn Merchant. A fine book in fine jacket, as new.

Sobre Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
