YORKSHIRE: Privately Published, 1924 Green cloth boards with gilt titles to spine. 235 x 155 mm approx. xxii + 996pp. Frontis + 184 illustrations being line drawings, maps and photos of which approx 70 of the later on full page plates. Written by the then Emeritas professor of Geology in the University of Leeds and the Hon. Sec, Yorkshire Geological Society the books aim is to provide a readable account of the Geology of the North of England, particularly Yorkshire with its diverse geology of rocks and phenomena which attend them and to visualise the conditions which prevailed at the different Geological Epochs. The book was printed by Hollinek Bros; printers of Scientific books Vienna for the authors and whilst the paper stock of the plates is of good quality that of the book block generally is poor resulting in significant browning of the paper which is also somewhat brittle. The book is written in three parts, the first deals with the various geological periods and the formation of the types of strata, the second is entitled "Yorkshire from a Railway Carriage Window" and part three "Specimen Days in Yorkshire"The copy offered by us has recently been re backed with new mull and end papers and the original spine laid on to provide a sound reading copy. Please see our images. No annotations or previous owner name . Soiling marks to half title page and gilt title to spine rubbed. No other notable defects.
