Folio 46 cm x 31.5 cm, 18 x 12 inches, 2 volumes bound in 1, (6) - viii - 142 - (ii) +138 - (xiv) all edges gilt 43 double page plates of horsemanship, + 20 plates of horse anatomy equipment etc 2 are double pages some of the plates tinted. A facsimile reprint of the 1743 first edition taken from a copy loaned by The Duke of Gloucester and limited to 500 numbered copies this being copy number 7, sold in aid of The Save The Children Fund with a dedication from Princess Ann and an introduction signed by The Duke of Beaufort. Bound in a full dark brown morocco with marbled end papers and inner gilt rolled tooling. The boards with 2 gilt decorated frames with corner pieces within a single ruled border. The spine in 6 compartments with a red title label and horse vignettes. Contained in the publisher's cloth covered drop over box with red leather tile label, light rubbing to the edge of the label. There are no inscription marks or defects to the contents or binding. A superb and impressive production of one of the greatest books on horsemanship. In an age when almost every man could ride passably as a matter of course William Cavendish developed a level of skill which must be envied by any rider. A heavy book postage may be greater than ABE quote.
