Spine gilt stamped (matching call number), with raised bands. Outer hinges rubbed. Library bookplate on front pastedowns. Pinhole library stamps on title pages, dedication page, and on one additional text-only leaf in each volume. Edges of leaves are toned; scattered foxing; dampstains in the margin of the first four plates in Vol. II. Tissue guards are present for all but a couple plates. A few leaves loose. Errata-page for both volumes at terminus of Vol. II. Ninety-six engraved plates, complete. Vol. I 98 ff.; Vol. II 102 ff. Folio. 14.25 x 10.5 inches. Scarce. Though ex-library, still an attractive set. Each of the portraits is followed by one or two pages of text describing the her family. John Ross was a notable British explorer known for his Arctic and Antarctic explorations. After a brief, but successful voyage to the north in 1818, Ross and his crew undertook a more extensive second Arctic expedition in 1829. It was on this four-year adventure that Ross encountered Inuit tribes, reached the true North Magnetic Pole, charted new islands, and noted impressive geographical and meteorological phenomena.

Onofrio Puglisi was a 17th-century Italian mathematician known for two separate arithmetic treatises. The second, entitled "Practice of Numeral Economics", proved to be one of the best 17th-century Italian works on accounting. It was also one of the earliest books of its kind. Prior to 1671, no Italian authors had published works solely on accounting (Fanfani, p.426). A landmark work in the history of Italian accounting!

Near fine condition. Excepting the slightest tone along the jacket top edge, this would be a fine copy. No inscriptions and bright throughout.
