Uniformly half bound in brown morocco over marbled boards (by MacDonald - N.Y.), spines in six compartments separated by raised bands, gilt lettering in two compartments, t.e.g., marbled endpapers. Illustrated with tissue-protected frontispieces, portraits, maps, facsimiles, and family trees. Original cloth spine bound in at the end of each volume. Prescott (three volumes, 1st edition, Boston: Phillips, Sampson, and Company, 1857); (3) History of the Conquest of Mexico, with a Preliminary View of the Ancient Mexican Civilization, and the Life of the Conqueror, Hernando Cortes (three volumes, 1st edition, New York: Harper and Brothers, 1843); (4) History of the Reign of Philip the Second, King of Spain (three volumes, 1st edition, Boston: Phillips, Sampson, and Company, 1855); (5) History of the Conquest of Peru (two volumes, 2nd edition, New York: Harper and Brothers, 1848); and (6) Biographical and Critical Miscellanies (one volume, 1st edition, New York: Harper and Brothers, 1845). . All of the volumes are unmarked (aside from a former owner's signature on the title pages), tight, square, and clean. A few of the volumes have some very slight brusing on the spines, mild foxing throughout. All of the hinges are strong, and the leather is supple and soft. A very handsome set.
