"Pierre Coste (1668-1747), a French Huguenot who took refuge in England after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, played a leading role in the dissemination of ideas and transmigrion of values. 12 Coste's work went both ways. Not only did he bring English thought to the attention of the French; he also published French writers such as Racine and works of his own such as L'Histoire du Prince de Conde' (1693) and introduced Montaigne, La Bruyere and La Fontaine to England.
